Sue understands public service organisations, and how to organise and motivate an institution to deliver. She has developed this expertise through many years working in central and local government, including 16 years in executive leadership positions.
Sue gets what it means to be responsible for driving change in central and local government. In particular she is a source of expert advice on how environmental management systems work; from development of the legislation to implementation of the systems and decisions integral to its efficient management.
Sue is a catalyst for tough conversations and a safe pair of hands for steering challenging problems solving through to resolution. She is known for her expertise in engaging local government, community interest groups and industry in the deep thinking and problem solving associated with regulatory change.
Sue was Acting Chief Executive to Heritage New Zealand for 4 months during 2016.
Sue has substantial governance experience, particularly in professional bodies and the not-for-profit sector where she has held leadership roles through significant periods of change, and on advisory boards.
Established the Knowledge & Information Services branch in DIA bringing together a diverse group of services and instituting integrated strategies and a new sense of purpose.
Established the Local Government Group for the Ministry for the Environment, and led numerous initiatives in the sector.
